I noticed in your newsletter you said you don’t drink soy milk. Is that because most storebought soymilks have so many ingredients? I use Westsoy Unsweetened Organic Vanilla Soymilk. It has whole organic soybeans, filtered water, and natural flavors. Nothing else. I’ve tried several times to develop a taste for almond milk, but I just haven’t gotten there yet.
I just prefer almond milk to soy. I prefer getting my soy from tofu or tempeh on occasion.
Stumbled across your blog about a week ago after watching FOK and E2. My husband and I decided to make the change to whole food, plant strong…it just makes sense to us. We are a military family of 6, so my biggest challenge has been the kids. It’s a process that is not overnight (but we did switch to unsweetened almond milk immediately
. I have read every post of yours, and I love all the bright, and rich photos of your meals. It’s like I could taste by sight! If you ever feel so inclined, I would love if you have any tips on making the “switch over” a little easier?? Thanks a bunch!
K.B. – switching to unsweetened almond milk right away is a feat to be proud of! My husband hated it at first, so I mixed it half and half for him for awhile. My best advice for making it easier for the kids is to involve them in the process. Give them the power to decide which veggies to cut up for on top of salads, let them decorate their own mini pizzas with the toppings of their choosing. Same goes for making a Rips Big Bowl, oatmeal or even crafting their own veggie soup. Being part of the decision making process really gives them pride and ownership.
Another fun project is letting them grow herbs on the window sill. Watching it grow and getting to use it in a recipe is a great source of pride. When weather permits let them plant veggies outside, whether in a full size garden outside or in pots on a patio. Getting to see the seeds come up, grow and produce a tomato can be absolutely magical – no matter how old your kids are. I am 40 and frankly, I still get giddy over the first tomato!
One of my favorite ideas involves a few small gladware containers inside a larger rectangular container marked with the childs name. It lives in the fridge and each small container contains healthy snacks of their choosing – carrot sticks, grapes, trail mix, raisins etc. Having their own special box that they designed makes it fun for them at snack time.
I am linking you to two of my favorite pinterest boards for ideas for kids. Some of these are pretty cool! http://pinterest.com/Vegantempo/vegan-fun-healthy-veggies-for-kids/ and http://pinterest.com/Vegantempo/vegan-fun-healthy-fruit-for-kids/
Keep me posted about how you are doing and feel free to share any ideas that work for you on my facebook page so others can try it out too!
What a great resource (and the newsletter is very nicely designed)!
Thanks so much!
Hello!
My name is Lauren, I am 25 and I just did the 28 day Engine 2 plan! I did it hardcore and got my lab results before beginning, and just got them done Monday, yesterday, the 29th. I got my results back already and everything was RAISED! I am freaking out! How could this happen!!
My cholesterol raised 19 points! My LDL raised 13 points and my HDL raised 3 points!
I just don’t understand, and according to these results, I should go back to eating junk food! haha. any ideas?
I am pretty healthy, exercise weekly, and even lost 5 lbs. on this plan during the month, but this is very confusing and discouraging. Can someone help me?
I do not have a thyroid issue (got tested), and all my lab results were considered “normal” by the doctor even before beginning this plan.
The day before I took the test I allowed myself to eat some apple pie from an apple farm (very fresh and no preservatives! But, of course loaded with sugar from apples and brown sugar). Is this the culprit? Just some apple pie? It’s the only thing I can think of? I also fasted before the test for over 12 hours, so I thought I would be flushed of the pie before the test…thoughts?
So upset!
Thank you for any help/ideas
Lauren
Hi Lauren,
I would have to see a weeks worth of food journals to help you pinpoint what the issue might be.
Thank you for your reply! Do you have an email I can send it to, or should I just do it here?
